This is not an issue for me as I have never lived anywhere long enough or had enough money to accumulate "things." In fact, sometimes the opposite is true. For example, I slept on my couch for a couple of years until I could afford a bed. But I watch many friends go through this and saw how my father collected things as if to prove to himself that his life had meaning. A lot to unpack there.
